Tackling Latency by Enhancing Model-Mediated Teleoperation with Smarter Environment Models
PhD defence, Wednesday 4 June 2025, Mads Mørch Antonsen

During his PhD, Mads Mørch Antonsen investigated methods to improve environment modeling for model-mediated teleoperation, a technique particularly suited for teleoperation with high network latency. Improving the environment model enhances the accuracy of haptic perception of the remote environment. He proposed a method for fusing multimodal data from multiple sensors to generate more accurate geometry for the environment model. He also explored methods for mapping physical parameters such as stiffness and friction both spatially and semantically onto the model. His research led to models with improved accuracy and more efficient updating, enabling better haptic feedback during teleoperation.
