If you are a PhD student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences and have documented dyslexia, dyscalculia or a psychological or neurological diagnosis, such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, or a personality disorder, you may be eligible for special educational support through Aarhus University’s Counselling and Support Centre.
The aim of special educational support is to help you with the elements of your PhD study that are affected due to your condition. Therefore, the assistance is adapted and planned based on your individual needs. It may consist of either one-on-one guidance from a study mentor or academic support tutor or group sessions with other students.
You can for example receive assistance with:
If you are located outside Aarhus, assistance can be provided online. Additionally, support can be in either Danish or English.
To qualify for special educational support, you must provide documentation from a doctor, hospital, treatment facility, or other relevant authority. This must include your name, CPR number, and a diagnosed condition, long-term illness, or disability, such as a medical certificate or a dyslexia assessment.
If you wish to apply for special educational support, please contact Head of PhD Administration for Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences, Rikke J. Ljungmann, who must initiate the contact to the Counselling and Support Centre on your behalf.
You will then be invited to an assessment meeting at the Counselling and Support Centre to determine if a special educational support programme can be accommodated and to identify the type of support best suited for your needs.
Please note that documentation of your diagnosis, long-term condition, or disability must be brought with you to the assessment meeting with the Counselling and Support Centre.
If a support programme is deemed relevant, a special educational support counsellor will be assigned to you, and the programme will start. The frequency and format of meetings will be agreed upon between you and your counsellor. The duration of the programme, however, is determined based on an individual, concrete assessment.
