Engineering Band Alignment: Pushing the Frontiers of 2D Optoelectronic Devices

PhD defence, Friday 12 September 2025, Yi Ouyang

Yi Ouyang

During his PhD studies, Yi Ouyang investigated how the electronic properties of 2D materials can be engineered to enhance the performance of optoelectronic devices. These atomically thin materials exhibit unique optical and electronic characteristics, ideal for applications such as light detection, solar energy harvesting, and future integrated circuits. Yi Ouyang focused on the rational design and modulation of energy band alignment at material interfaces to reduce electrical resistance, improve charge carrier separation, and enable multifunctional device functionalities.

These new insights contribute to the advancement of next-generation, energy-efficient 2D optoelectronic systems.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University.
