During his PhD studies, Mads Kofod Dahl researched structural health monitoring systems for reinforced concrete infrastructure. The work focused on the development and application of embedded piezoelectric sensors utilizing electromechanical impedance measurements to assess structural condition and detect deterioration caused by reinforcement corrosion. By combining sensor technologies with machine learning-based data analysis, Mads developed methods for extracting meaningful information from long-term monitoring data, contributing to improved condition assessment, maintenance planning, and service-life management of critical infrastructure.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University.
