Numerical soil mechanics – a study in agricultural machine-soil interaction

During his studies, Frederik Foldager researched numerical methods for modeling the interaction between arable soils and agricultural machines, both related to tillage tools and to agricultural vehicles.  

The research findings contribute to the understanding of how the soil moves during tillage as well as how to compute the loads that are required of for an example a harrow tine during a field operation in different soil types.
The Industrial PhD project was completed together with the company, Agrointelli, that develops agricultural unmanned field robots. The methods developed in this project are used for understanding how the machine drives in different soil conditions. Thus, we can compute and foresee the differences between driving in sandy fields compared to fields of clay soil.

The Industrial PhD study was completed in collaboration between the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University and the company Agrointelli.
