More efficient dairy cows – How to increase N efficiency and reduce climate effect

During his PhD studies, Wenji Wang researched the interaction between the effect of fava bean processing conditions and forage source on rumen fermentation, metabolizable protein supply and methane emission in dairy cows. Wenji Wang also studied relationship between effects of dietary protein supply, nitrate supplementation, and genetic yield index on N efficiency and methane emission, and investigated the effect of nitrate supplementation on nitrous oxide emission in dairy cows.


The new research findings contribute to the understanding of the possibility of improving N efficiency and reducing methane emission in dairy cows at the same time.


The PhD study was completed at Department of animal and Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University.
