Arnthrudur Gisladottir

During her PhD studies, Arnthrudur Gisladottir has investigated how expert knowledge dealing with the urban sound environment can gain higher status in the urban planning and design practice. The quality of the urban sound environment is essential for healthier and more livable urban environments, although the subject is often forgotten or downgraded.

The relationship between architectural design and sound propagation in inner city environments is one area where there exists important expert knowledge, although it is seldom consulted in urban development processes. Arnthrudur Gisladottir has studied how urban planners and design professionals seek and acquire knowledge and identified relevant knowledge to transfer. With this background she has developed a framework for improved knowledge transfer.

The PhD study was completed at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University.
